| Software Development - Data Migration |
Dozens of Olas customers now migrating from Excel or Access to Microsoft SQLServer |
| |
Conor MacManus, Software Development Director explains why many customers find Microsoft's SQLServer to be a secure-cost effective alternative
| |
|
Many customers increasingly need to manage more and more operational data, and extract valuable insight from it. Others need better security on shared spreadsheets in this age of connectedness.

| |
 |
| |
Depending on the complexity of your needs, we use Microsoft Excel with macros, Microsoft Access (both are free with MS Office!), or Microsoft SQLServer (free and licensed versions): |
| |
 | Use Excel with macros when you have flat data (no hierarchies) and a small, responsible, user base. |
|
| |
 | Microsof Access is a good choice if your data has hierarchies or you have disparate users. |
|
| |
 | And use SQLServer when any of the following apply: |
|
| |
 | if you need high security |
| | if your data is hierarchical and needs to be normalised into entities and relationships |
|
| | if you need to consolidate data from different systems |
| | if you need to do consolidated reporting |
|
|
|
| |
| |
| So if your challenge is reporting on live web-based data, or consolidated data, or you need better structuring on an existing system or spreadsheet, why not pick up the phone and call: |

| |
| Conor can also explain about automating a data process, or validating data that is coming in from a supplier (we have an ETL framework), or setting up rules in Microsoft SQLServer that ensure the itnegrity of the data in the database so you can be sure of what you're reporting to your board is accurate and insightful. |
